WHAT DOES HAMILTON NEED MOST IN 2019-2022?

I’ve grown up and lived much of my life in Hamilton. Im proud to call myself a Hamiltonian. I attended Hillcrest High School and graduated from Hamilton Teacher’s College and Waikato University. As well as bringing up 3 amazing sons, I’ve taught in the Waikato, policed in Hamilton and taken up playing, umpiring, coaching and selecting roles in netball at all levels of representation.

I love all sports and I love to keep active cycling, swimming, gardening, walking our dog and practicing yoga and pilates. In my non active time I love going to the movies, eating out, reading and listening to interesting podcasts.

The future is an exciting space to look towards and plan for but today and the present is where our appreciation lies.

Why am I so keen on playgrounds?

Parenthood was one of the most exciting times in my life. I loved the fun things we did as a family. Life always seemed to be so busy and energetic. But there were also times when I felt exhausted and just couldn’t keep up...

WHAT I GIVE THE COMMUNITY

Proven success in high-pressure environments

4 years in high performance netball coaching gave me valuable experience in the pressure cooker environment of high stakes decision making.

Independent Politician

As an independent, I am not aligned to any political party. I make my decisions on an issue-by-issue basis.

I know that some people will agree with the decisions I make and some people will not -  it comes with the territory. But know that I will always have a balanced view, look at the big picture and think deeply about the effects of my decisions on others. I am a good listener and an empathetic leader who wants to serve.

Past success as City Councillor

From my last term on council I had the pleasure of working with a number of teams to deliver the Western Rail Trail, the Bike plan, 3 x Destination playgrounds and the development of Hamilton Gardens.  Securing over $2.5M of Lotteries Funding for the Hamilton Gardens was a highlight for me.

Raising over $8M of  funding from NZTA, The National Cycleways fund, Lotteries, Vibrant Hamilton Trust, Grassroots Funding and more through the workstream of the External Funding Committee is another achievement Im very proud of.
